This was the first time either of us had seen this bird in Minnesota. Most birders regard the songs of the Thrushes (in particular the Hermit Thrush) as the most beautiful of bird songs. I would put the song of the Field Sparrow in the same category.

The beautiful White-throated, White-crowned, and Harris' Sparrows were wonderful while they were here. It seems they have moved on to their breeding grounds for the summer. I always relish seeing them. We look forward to enjoying them again in the Fall!!! I love them all!

I am amazed at how fast the birds arrived. Boom! It's like they know it's May; let's get the show on the road. You can hear lots of different bird songs outdoors, especially in the morning. It can be hard to differentiate them at times. Today we had more rain so we may get even more interesting birds tomorrow and Monday. I love it!

I agree that April was rather disappointing for birds. Today is the first day of May. We've had bad storms today and with that, some new birds have come in. This morning we saw a White-crowned Sparrow! We have just witnessed a Yellow-headed Blackbird at our feeder. Jerry will post a picture on here probably tonight. Wow! What a gorgeous bird!

Have to remind myself this is still just the beginning of the migration season, except for the ducks, of course. We are getting the Yellow-rumped warbler and today we saw the White-throated Sparrow! Crane Meadows always has surprises for us when we go there. Seeing the Yellow Legs and the Northern Harrier was a real treat for me! I can't wait for the migrating warblers to really kick in. Then we'll be really busy!

The flag did not deter the Osprey from building another nest. We were very worried they would not return. It makes my heart glad to see them again!
We went on a road trip today around Pillager and the Pillsbury State Forest area. We saw some beautiful ducks such as Wood Ducks, Ring Necked Ducks, and a Blue-winged Teal. Also saw the firs Ruby-Crowned Kinglet of the year. I am excited for the migrating warblers.

I am so excited for the Spring migration, which is now in progress. Today we saw the Yellow-rumped warbler! It was very exciting to see it flitting around in the trees by the lake. We have seen a number of Trumpeter Swans. They are so beautiful and special. They are still endangered, I believe. If not, that's good. Regardless, I love seeing them. We had some bluebirds interested in our front nest box last evening. There were several of these birds in & out of the box. I am hoping they will nest & raise a family there. We have another nest box down by the lake. Hoping to get bluebirds there also! I am so excited to see the first warbler of this Spring. It has been an early start for us this year & I hope it lasts for awhile.

I am so excited about Spring arriving early! The return of the Eastern Bluebird excites me so! They are so beautiful and I love their song. The Juncos are also hanging out; this is a sure sign of Spring. We have a beautiful Fox Sparrow, always a gorgeous sight! I love the activity of the eagles and hawks. Seeing Northern Harriers is awesome! I have been raking the front yard the past two days. There's lots more to do! Can't wait for the warblers to return. We are going to be very busy this Spring!
